Fun is the One Thing Money Can’t Buy
By Stephanie Riseley, CHt
Fun isn’t a Reward. Fun is the Medicine.
Are you having enough fun? If not, read on!
A client sat across from me last week and said, “I haven’t done anything just for fun in eleven years.”
Eleven years.
I asked her why. She said she didn’t have time. She said it felt selfish. She said fun was for people whose lives weren’t as hard as hers.
Here’s what I told her: your nervous system doesn’t know the difference between deprivation and discipline. It just knows it’s been starved.
THE SHADOW SIDE OF “BEING RESPONSIBLE”
Most of my clients don’t walk in asking for permission to have fun. They walk in exhausted, anxious, stuck in patterns they can’t name. But underneath almost every one of those patterns is the same culprit: a Shadow Side that decided somewhere along the way that joy had to be earned, rationed, or hidden.
That belief doesn’t come from nowhere. It’s trauma. It’s old conditioning. It’s a Critical Parent voice that got installed before you had any say in the matter.
And it is exactly the kind of pattern that hypnotherapy, Parts Therapy, and trauma-informed work are built to untangle.
WHY YOUR BRAIN NEEDS YOU TO PLAY
This isn’t woo. It’s neuroscience.
Play and pleasure activate the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of you responsible for rest, repair, and healing. Chronic seriousness keeps you locked in fight-or-flight, where your body burns resources defending against a threat that, half the time, isn’t even there anymore.
When I work with a client using Cognitive Behavioral techniques alongside hypnotherapy, we’re not just talking about the problem. We’re going underneath it, to the part of the brain that’s been running the same outdated script for decades, and we’re rewriting it.
Parts Therapy lets us find the exact part of you that’s standing guard over your joy, convinced that letting it out will get you hurt, judged, or abandoned. Once we find that part, we don’t fight it. We thank it. And then we negotiate.
WHAT I DO IN SESSION
People ask me what kind of work I do. I tell them: hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Methods, Parts Therapy, and trauma resolution, all of it grounded in neuroscience, not guesswork. Some people call elements of this Rapid Transformational Therapy. I call it what it is: deep, fast, effective work that gets you out of your head and into your actual life.
Past-life regression takes it further still. When a client sees a lifetime in which they laughed, played, and lived fully, something shifts that talk therapy alone rarely touches. The body remembers joy as a fact, not a theory.
YOU ARE ALLOWED
You do not need to earn rest. You do not need to suffer first. You do not need anyone’s permission, including your own, to feel good.
Your Shadow Side has had the wheel long enough.
If you’re ready to find out what’s actually blocking your joy, and to finally let it go, I’d love to work with you.
